Softball Charges Past Illinois College after Losing to Unbeaten Belhaven

The Hope College softball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with another game-winning, seventh-inning rally.

The Flying Dutch scored three times in their at-bat and held on for a 5-4 victory against Illinois College on Saturday in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Hope (2-1 overall) closed the Fontbonne University (Mo.) Tournament on a winning note after losing to unbeaten Belhaven University (Miss.) by a 3-1 margin during the morning.

On Friday, the Flying Dutch beat Carroll University (Wis.), 4-3, by scoring twice in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

Against Illinois College (0-1), the Flying Dutch overcame a 4-2 deficit on a two-run double from freshman pinch-hitter Sophie Stironek (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion HS). Stironek then came around to score on two wild pitches.
