ACHA Hockey Sweeps Ferris State, Moves into Share of Division Lead

The fifth-ranked Hope College ice hockey team swept Ferris State University over the weekend in ACHA play and remained in contention for another division title.

The Flying Dutchmen won 8-2 on Friday on home ice at Griff's IceHouse West and 4-1 on Saturday at Cedar Rock Ice Arena in Cedar Springs.

Hope (20-5 overall) joined top-ranked Grand Valley State University and ninth-ranked Michigan State University atop the Michigan College Hockey Conference West Division III standings. All three teams have 16 points with one division series remaining.

Hope hosts Michigan State on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. and skates at Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 8:45 p.m. at Suburban Ice Arena in East Lansing. GVSU faces Ferris State.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen never trailed after scoring the game's first three goals.

Senior right wing Nolan Convertini (Muskegon, Michigan / Muskegon Catholic Central HS) delivered two goals, including the game-winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in the second period that put Hope ahead 2-0.

Convertini assisted on the Flying Dutchmen's first goal. Senior forward Ryan Endres (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) scored a short-handed goal with 6:41 remaining in the first period.

Freshman right wing Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) also scored for the Flying Dutchmen.

Junior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) made 25 saves.

On Friday, Hope jumped to a 5-0 by the end of the first period.

Senior center Gabe Gunneson (Rockford, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) and sophomore forward Keegan McNamara (Linden, Michigan / Fenton) chipped in two goals apiece.

Gunneson recorded two assists.

The Flying Dutchmen also received goals from Breit, sophomore defenseman Austin Ieuter (Midland, Michigan / H.H Dow), junior defenseman Ian MacDonald (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and sophomore forward Brenden Tarpening (Fenton, Michigan / Flint Powers).
