The Hope College women's tennis team battled until the end in its second loss of the season.
The Flying Dutch fell 5-4 to Bethel University (Minn.) in Altamonte Springs, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon.
Hope is now 6-3 this season.
After jumping to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, Hope added wins from senior Annika Weeber and junior Sullivan Moran before Bethel finished the match with four straight victories.
Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves HS) won at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) took home a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 singles flight.
Junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and freshman Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) were both edged in singles play that needed three-sets.
Coffey dropped a three set match 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 0-1 (7-10) at No. 4 singles.
Wei, at No. 5 singles, had a comeback cut short after dropping the first set 3-6, winning the second set 6-4, and ultimately falling in the third set 0-1 (7-10).
During doubles play, Hope took two of three matches, with No. 2 and No. 3 doubles emerging victorious.
Weeber and Coffey won 8-3 in No. 2 doubles.
Wei and Phoebe Walker (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) took care of business at No. 3 doubles, with an 8-4 win.
Hope returns to the court on Thursday, March 14, at 8 a.m. to take on Transylvania University at the USTA National Training Center in Orlando, Florida.
