Note: The annual HOPEYs celebration of Hope College Athletics will be held on Monday, April 15, at 7 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse. The event is open to the public. Admission is free.
The Anchor Award is presented to a student-athlete who anchors the team, inspiring their teammates to train and perform at their best.
Jennaka Bultman, Softball
Coach Michelle Brander Metiva knows what it takes to make a great team. She recognizes Jennaka's role in that. She says, "Jennaka Bultman is the ultimate teammate and Hope college student -athlete whose love for God shines through in all she does and how she treats people. She's worked her way into an every day player role with how hard she has worked and improved these last three years to bounce back from injury and earn her role. She is the first person to cheer on anyone who gets opportunities in her positions as well and is the ultimate hype woman in the dugout to fuel the field with energy. You can always count on JB to bring her absolute best, every day."
Molly Frederickson, Women's Lacrosse
A junior on the women's lacrosse team, Coach Keagan Pontious remarks on how Molly impacted and anchored her 2023 team. "Molly is a fearless leader that is grounded in hard work and resilience. She will do whatever is best for the team and encourages others to do the same. Her ability to inspire those around her is unmatched."
Elisa Melville, Women's Soccer
Coach Leigh Sears understands the value of a person who anchors a team. Elisa, a senior midfielder, does just that. Coach Sears says, "Elisa is a great teammate. She has a heart for others and is always looking to take care of those around her. She displayed a relentless effort to live into the core values of our program and is the definition of a servant leader."
Annie Lockett, Volleyball
The coolest part of a championship team is when every player makes an impact regardless of their role on the court. Coach Becky Schmidt believes junior Annie Lockett lived this out every day despite not being able to play due to injury. She says, "Annie is a selfless leader who was able to impact the team despite not having one stat this year. Her willingness to put the team first, celebrate her teammates and bring wisdom and perspective to the team was inspiring."
