2024 HOPEYs Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

Note: The annual HOPEYs celebration of Hope College Athletics will be held on Monday, April 15, at 7 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse. The event is open to the public. Admission is free.

The Female Newcomer of the Year is presented to the freshman or transfer who made a significant impact within their sport during their first year on the team. The 2024 award nominees are:

Julia Brown, Women's Lacrosse

As a freshman last spring, the attacker burst onto the scene for the Flying Dutch as one of the top young players in the Midwest. Brown became Hope's first all-region honoree as a second-team selection while also being named All-MIAA First Team and MIAA Rookie of the Year. Brown set a Flying Dutch single-season record with 79 points that included 54 goals, the second-most in program history. Brown helped Hope claim its first MIAA regular-season and tournament titles

Kamryn Burbridge, Volleyball

The freshman middle hitter became a force on the court for the Flying Dutch, averaging a team-best 1.10 blocks per set and finishing third at 2.28 kills per set. Burbridge was named to the NCAA Division III Championships all-tournament team after the Flying Dutch finished as national runner-up. Burbridge also was voted to the All-MIAA Second Team after playing a big role in Hope's run to a sweep of MIAA regular-season and tournament championships.

Amanda Lopykinski, Women's Tennis

The freshman established herself as the Flying Dutch's No. 1 singles player during the 2023 season. Lopykinski went 19-8 in the top singles flight for a winning percentage. Lopykinski teamed with Sullivan Moran for a 19-6 record at No. 1 doubles, a .720 winning percentage. Lopykinski earned All-MIAA First Team honors after helping Hope win the MIAA Tournament title for the 11th consecutive time with a 5-3 victory at Kalamazoo College.

Anne Stolle, Women's Swimming and Diving

The freshman swimmer quickly developed into one of the Flying Dutch's top breaststrokers. Stolle clocked the fastest 200-yard breaststroke of the season with a NCAA Championships 'B' cut swim of 2:20.70 at the MIAA Championships. Stolle also swam Hope's second-fastest 100 breaststroke, an NCAA Championships 'B' cut swim of 2:20.94. Stolle helped the Flying Dutch win a fourth consecutive MIAA title.

Carley Wagasky, Women's Soccer

The junior excelled on the field in her first season for the Flying Dutch. A versatile forward and defender, Wagasky scored a team-high nine goals that tied for the third-most among MIAA players and helped Hope record a 10-win season. Wagasky, a transfer from the University of Findlay (Ohio), made the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team as well as the All-MIAA First Team.

Terin Maynard, Women's Basketball

The freshman came off the bench for the Flying Dutch but her impact was felt right away. As a backup point guard, Terin impacted the game through scoring, assists and defending the other team's best player. She finished as a Top 15 Freshman statistically in the NCAA this year playing at least 18 min per game and averaging 7.5 points per game. She helped the Flying Dutch win an MIAA Championship and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.
