Men's Tennis Falls to Kalamazoo in MIAA Tournament Semifinals

The Hope College men's tennis team concluded the 2024 season with a 5-1 loss at top-seeded Kalamazoo in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 10-11 record.

Hope earned its point at third doubles when freshman Cooper Nugent (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams HS) and junior Jonathan Eggleston (Yuseong Gu, Daejeon / Taejon Christian International School) recorded an 8-1 victory.

Kalamazoo (8-10) took a 2-1 into singles play.

At first doubles, All-MIAA first-team selection and senior Justin Fay (Naperville, Illinois / St. Francis) and season-long doubles partner junior Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) fell 8-2.

At second doubles, freshman All-MIAA Second Team honorees Rylan Doden (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) and Paul Schneider (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) lost 8-3.

The Hornets closed out the match by defeating Fay 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, Schneider 6-1, 6-0 at second singles and Doden 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

Kalamazoo advanced to face Calvin University in the MIAA Tournament final on Friday, May 3.
