The MIAA has selected four from Hope College as Women's Athletes of the Week: sophomore Julia Brown, senior Maddie Yakes and sophomore Caroline Curnutt in women's lacrosse, and freshman Madison Wei in women's tennis.
Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central HS) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in her career.
The attacker totaled eight goals and five assists during last week's MIAA Tournament and led the Flying Dutch to victories of 17-7 vs. Albion College on Wednesday and 20-8 vs. Trine University on Saturday. The sociology and psychology major finished with a 91.7 shots-on-goal percentage.
Brown, who has 64 goals on the season, became the first Flying Dutch player to score 60 goals in a single season.
Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) is the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and the fifth time in her career.
The neuroscience major recorded a 37.5 save percentage and made nine saves combined against Albion and Trine.
Curnutt (Fishers, Indiana / Heritage Christian) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week.
The draw-control specialist and elementary education major recorded five draw controls and one ground ball during the MIAA Tournament.
Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) is the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time.
The bioelectrical and biomedical engineering major earned four points over two MIAA Tournament matches last week to help the Flying Dutch defeat Kalamazoo College on Thursday and Saint Mary's College on Saturday.
Wei clinched the MIAA title vs. Saint Mary's with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. She won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles vs. Kalamazoo. Wei also won twice at No. 3 doubles last week.
