Women's Cross Country Takes Third at 37-Team NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Senior Molly Durow finishes as the regional runner-up on Saturday

Led by senior Molly Durow, the Hope College women's cross country team raced to a third-place finish at the 37-team NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Saturday.

Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) placed second with a time of 22 minutes, 7.01 seconds on the 6K course at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Calvin University's Sophie Bull won in 21:40.85.

The Flying Dutch scored 122 points, finishing behind two MIAA rivals: regional champion Trine University (58) and Calvin (91).

Hope will learn Sunday, Nov. 16, whether the Flying Dutch receive an at-large berth to next week's NCAA Division III Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Durow and sophomore Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) both earned all-region honors with top-30 finishes. England placed 20th in 22:42.24.

Three additional Hope runners recorded top-40 times in the 260-runner field.

Freshman Dylan Ballin (Brookville, Ohio / Brookville) finished 32nd in 23:01.23.

Junior Grace Baldauff (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / Northridge) followed in 33rd at 23:01.86, and freshman Taylor Mitchell (Otsego, Michigan / Otsego) was 38th in 23:09.53.

Junior Olivia Ippel (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) placed 55th in 23:24.23, and freshman Miranda Sawvel (Laramie, Wyoming / Centennial) was 69th in 23:41.38.

"Molly ran a great race for us," head coach Mark Northuis said. "We had some new people come up tough. Molly's our only senior. We have six coming back for us next year; that's exciting."
