No. 9 Women's Basketball Storms Past Kalamazoo

The ninth-ranked Hope College women's basketball team put everyone in the scorebook while cruising to a 93-40 victory at Kalamazoo College on Saturday during a wintry afternoon.

Led by sophomore Maddie Petroelje, all 16 Flying Dutch scored at least two points.

Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) tied for game-high scoring honors with 11 points during the Orange and Blue's 73rd consecutive victory against the Hornets.

Hope improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play and never trailed after scoring the game's first three points.

The Flying Dutch finished the first quarter with 21 points and produced 24-point quarters in each of the remaining three periods.

It was the Orange and Blue's highest-scoring game of the season. Hope also recorded season bests with 18 assists, 21 steals, 24 free throws made, 33 free throws attempted and fewest points allowed.

The Flying Dutch limited Kalamazoo (1-8, 0-3 MIAA) to 26.9% shooting from the field (14 of 52), including 19.2% from 3-point range (5 of 26). Scarlett Hosner led the Hornets with 11 points.

Freshman Bayli Stewart (Cement City, Michigan / Western) chipped in a career-high nine points for Hope.

Senior Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) and freshman Gillian Sorrelle (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) added eight points apiece. It marked a career high for Sorrelle.

Sophomore Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) contributed a game-high five assists and five rebounds to go along with seven points. Freshman Josie DeSmit (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) also scored seven points.

Hope returns to action this week at the Oglethorpe University TownePlace Suites Classic in Atlanta. The Flying Dutch face Oglethorpe on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. and Pacific University (Oregon) on Thursday, Dec. 18, at noon at Oglethorpe.
