Sydney Vis, Nationally-Ranked Women's Basketball Roll at Saint Mary's

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's basketball team rang the Belles of Saint Mary's College for a 34th consecutive time on Wednesday,

The Sydney Vis-powered Flying Dutch won, 79-41, in South Bend, Indiana, to sweep the season series and extend a streak dating back to the 2008-09 season. The Flying Dutch lead the all-time series, 69-6.

Hope — No. 15 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 20 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association rankings — improved to 18-3 overall and 11-1 in MIAA play. Trine University, which was idle on Wednesday, remains atop the league standings with an 11-0 league record.

Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian HS) scored a season-high 18 points while also contributing a career-high six steals and six rebounds.

The 5-10 junior shot 75% from the field (8-12), including 40% from 3-point range (2-5). 

Vis powered Hope to a 38-13 halftime lead by nearly reaching her season-high with 13 points during the first two quarters. Vis also swiped four steals and hauled in four rebounds,

The Flying Dutch shot 54.4% from the field for the game (31-57).

Hope put three others in double figures.

Freshman forward Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) also registered a career-high with 13 points. 

Senior guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) chipped in 11 points.

Freshman guard Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) added 10 points.

The Flying Dutch held Saint Mary's to 31.3% field-goal shooting (15-48) and forced 32 turnovers. Katie Restovich topped the Belles with 12 points.

Hope's next game is Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. against Kalamazoo College at DeVos Fieldhouse.
