Baseball Bats Around Twice, Swipes Series Finale from Kalamazoo

The Hope College baseball team batted around in the fifth and seventh innings to launch the Flying Dutchmen past visiting Kalamazoo College in Wednesday's series finale.

The Orange and Blue won, 11-7, at Boeve Baseball Stadium after overcoming a 3-2 deficit behind a five-run fifth and a four-run seventh.

Hope (9-21, 4-8 MIAA) moved into sixth place in the league standings and within two games of fourth-place Albion College with a three-game series against the Britons coming up this weekend. Albion leads fifth-place Kalamazoo by one game.

The Flying Dutchmen are scheduled to host the series opener on Friday, April 18, at 4 p.m. at Boeve Baseball Stadium. Albion is set to host a doubleheader on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m.

Senior Dylan Kleinedler (Sterling Heights, Michigan / Stevenson HS) and junior Cade Seabaugh (Ballwin, Missouri / Ladue Horton) spearheaded Hope's 14-hit attack with three hits apiece.

After Kalamazoo's Ryar Rinehart hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the top of the fifth, Seabaugh tied the score at 3-3 by drawing a bases-loaded walk with nobody out. In his previous at-bat, Seabaugh blasted a two-run homer in the fourth, his team-leading fourth homer of the season.

Kleinedler reached on an error in the fifth, allowing Seabaugh to score the final run of the rally.

In the seventh, Kleinedler started another barrage by smacking a two-run double to right-center that knocked in junior Charlie Saul (Batavia. Illinois / Batavia) and Seabaugh.

Junior Jace DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) and sophomore Elliott Peter (Zionsville, Indiana / Zionsville) added two hits apiece. DeMann also scored two runs. Peter had an RBI single in the seventh.

Winning pitcher Mason Belmore (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview) scattered six hits and three runs over seven innings against Kalamazoo (16-11, 5-7 MIAA).

The senior struck out six, walked one batter and hit one batter while improving his record to 4-5.
