The Hope College women's basketball team handled business on the road Wednesday night, earning an 84–65 win at Adrian College.
The victory at the Merillat Center secured the Flying Dutch's sixth MIAA victory in seven tries and improved their overall record to 13-2.
Hope wasted no time establishing control, pushing the pace early and stacking up 28 first-quarter points.Adrian, however, refused to fade quietly.
The Bulldogs made their strongest push in the third quarter, trimming the Flying Dutch lead to as little as a single point with 46 seconds remaining in the third stanza following four consecutive Bulldog scores.Hope answered with a Leah Richards behind-the-arc swish to take a four-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Hope.
The Orange and Blue scored the first 13 points to reassert command. The Flying Dutch held Adrian (7-9, 3-4 MIAA) to just eight points over the final 10 minutes of play, the home team's lowest scoring quarter of the night.
Sophomore Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville HS) led Hope's scoring effort with 17 points, hitting three triples and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the line.
Sophomore Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) followed closely with 16 points while dominating the glass, finishing with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Senior Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) added 14 points and contributed four assists.
Sophomore Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) chipped in eight rebounds of her own.
Hope returns home on Saturday, Jan. 17, for Community Day at DeVos Fieldhouse and a 4 p.m. tipoff.
