It was cold beyond the doors of DeVos Fieldhouse, but inside, the nationally-ranked Hope College women's basketball team stayed hot on the court.
The Flying Dutch topped visiting Kalamazoo College, 74-42, on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to four games heading into this weekend's rematch in The Rivalry.
Hope (16-2 overall, 8-1 MIAA play) will travel to Calvin University on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. in the 142nd game between the two schools
Against Kalamazoo, the Flying Dutch's balance and depth shaped the story of the night.
Sophomore Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) paced the offense with 15 points and seven rebounds, while her sister, sophomore Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic), added 12 points and seven boards.
Sophomore Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) contributed 11 points, including two 3s. Senior Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) chipped eight points, four rebounds and three steals.
The bench supplied 26 points, reinforcing Hope's ability to sustain pressure in every rotation.
The Flying Dutch (No. 7 WBCA/No. 9 D3hoops) built its foundation early in the game, using an 18-9 first quarter and a 25-11 second quarter to seize a 43–20 halftime advantage.
It was Hope's 74th consecutive victory against the Hornets, the Flying Dutch's longest winning streak against an MIAA opponent. Hope leads the all-time series, 112-5.
