DeVos Fieldhouse's 20th Anniversary to be Celebrated This Week

The facility's history to be recognized during men's and women's home basketball games

Hope College and Hope College Athletics are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Richard and Helen DeVos Fieldhouse this week during two home basketball games.

The Flying Dutchmen host Albion College on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m., then entertain Adrian College on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m.

Special events will take place throughout both games, including a halftime video on the video board featuring some of the facility's memorable moments.

Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.hope.edu or at the door. Doors open at 4 p.m. Wednesday before the junior varsity game and at 2 p.m. Saturday.

DeVos Fieldhouse opened for campus and community use with the 2005-06 basketball season.

The 102,000-square-foot building is named for Richard and Helen DeVos, whose foundation contributed a $7.5 million anchor gift to the project. The final project cost was about $22 million.

DeVos Fieldhouse has hosted NCAA Division III and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament events in three sports, including national championships in women's basketball and women's volleyball.

In addition to the arena, DeVos Fieldhouse includes classrooms, a weight-training facility and a dance studio. Surrounded by green lawns, the facility serves as an eastern gateway to campus and downtown Holland.

The greater Holland community has also used DeVos Fieldhouse for events such as high school graduations, Tulip Time activities and the Gateway Mission Great Thanksgiving Banquet.
