MIAA Honors Women’s Soccer and Men’s Cross Country Standouts

Two Hope College standouts have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week: Mia Hesley in women's soccer and Elijah Forbord in men's cross country.

Hesley (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) is the MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time.

Forbord (Howell, Michigan / Brighton) is the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.

Hesley played a key role in Hope's 0–0 draw against No. 11 Calvin on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium during One Big Weekend. The defender and exercise science major played all 90 minutes and helped anchor a defense that held the Knights scoreless for the first time in MIAA play this season. The shutout marked the first time Calvin was shut out since September 8 against North Central College.

Forbord turned in a personal-best 8K time of 24 minutes, 38 seconds at the Augustana Interregional Invitational on Saturday in Rock Island, Illinois. The biochemistry and molecular biology major finished 17th overall, posting the fastest time among MIAA competitors and the second-fastest mark among Great Lakes Region runners. His performance helped lead the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch to an eighth-place team finish in a 37-team field.
