Eli Voisard Shoots 70, Leads Men’s Golf to Runner-Up Finish at MIAA Jamboree

Sophomore Eli Voisard carded four birdies and fired a 2-under-par 70 at Wuskowhan Players Club on Monday, powering the Hope College men's golf team to its best MIAA Jamboree finish of the season.

The Flying Dutch posted a team score of 298, only topped by Trine University's 291 in the eight-team event.

Voisard (Tipp City, Ohio / Tippecanoe) shot birdies on the 420-yard, par-4 second hole, the 380-yard par-4 eighth hole, the 580-yard, par-5 10th hole, and the 420-yard, par-4 17th. He finished second in the individual standings. Alma College's Jaden Ducharme checked in with a 68 after five holes under par, including an eagle on the 530-yard, par-5 seventh hole.

The 298 was Hope's best of MIAA Jamboree play this fall. The Flying Dutch moved up into fourth place in the season standings.

"The guys were confident today. The home course helps out a lot," head coach Caleb Nykamp said. "Eli's round, our best round of the year, sparked us. He was a solid ballstriker today and made a lot of putts. He always puts himself in good positions coming off the tee and approaching greens. When he makes his putts, he can shoot under par all the time."

Junior Max Shulman (Ypsilanti, Michigan / Greenhills) chipped in Hope's next best round, tying for seventh with a 74 that featured 15 pars.

Sophomore Joey Blondia (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake) tied for 10th by shooting a 78.

The Flying Dutch also received scoring rounds of 78 from junior Will Thomas (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) and sophomore Kody Vis (Spring Lake, Michigan / Spring Lake).

Three more golfers teed off for Hope. Sophomore Landon Bergsma (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) posted a 74 with five birdies. Freshmen Will DeHorn (South Lyon, Michigan / South Lyon East) and Jack Douglass (Lake Bluff, Illinois / Lake Forest carded an 86 and 87, respectively.

The Flying Dutch tee off for the final round of the fall on Monday, Oct. 26, at noon, at Gull Lake Country Club in Richland at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo College.
