Men’s Golf Continues Strong Fall Finish, Takes Second at Final MIAA Jamboree

Carding four rounds three strokes apart, the Hope College men's golf team closed the fall season with another season-low round.

The Flying Dutch fired a 4-over-par 292 on Monday at Gull Lake Country Club in Richland, Michigan, during the fourth and final MIAA Jamboree and placed second out of eight teams by four strokes.

It was the second consecutive round the Flying Dutch shot their best team score of the season.

"I feel great; we're trending in the right direction," head coach Caleb Nykamp said. "We have improved each time. We beat our best round by six strokes today. All the guys have shown what they're capable of. It's good momentum into the spring knowing what type of rounds the guys can shoot."

Sophomores Joey Blondia (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake) and Kody Vis (Spring Lake, Michigan / Spring Lake posted even-par 72s to lead the Flying Dutch and tie for sixth place individually. Calvin University's Ethan Tiller was medalist at 5-under.

Junior Will Thomas (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) chipped in 73 for Hope.

Sophomore Eli Voisard (Tipp City, Ohio / Tippecanoe), the reigning MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week, also scored for the Flying Dutch by shooting 73.

"We were definitely resilient," Nykamp said. "We didn't strike the ball necessarily well, but we made a ton of putts. We got up and down and really battled. I love to see that."

The Flying Dutch also received rounds on Monday of 74 from sophomore Landon Bergsma (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) and 86 from junior Max Shulman (Ypsilanti, Michigan / Greenhills).

Albion College (288) won the event that completed 72 holes of fall play. The MIAA Spring Finale will be announced in 2027 at a course and a date to be announced.

Hope edged third-place Calvin (293) and fourth-place Trine University (296). Trine is the overall leader by 12 strokes over Calvin.
