Men’s Hockey Edges Kent State in OT, Splits Weekend Series

Junior left wing Cade Pratt scored 2 minutes and 21 seconds into overtime, lifting the Hope College men's hockey team to a 4-3 victory at Kent State University on Saturday and a split of the two-game weekend series.

The Flying Dutch, who lost 4-2 to Kent State on Friday, are now 3-1 on the season heading into a two-game weekend series at home against John Carroll University. Both games at Holland Ice Arena on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 9-10, will start at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Kent State scored twice over the final two minutes to force overtime.

Hope held a 3-1 lead for 5 ½ minutes later after freshman left wing Cooper Clouse (Fargo, N.D. West Fargo Sheyenne / Great Falls Americans NA3HL) netted a power-play goal off an assist from Carter Lehmann (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central / El Paso Rhinos NA2HL) at the 11:22 mark of the period.

The Flying Dutch snapped a 1-1 tie at the 6:22 mark when sophomore left wing Alex John (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Metro Jets USPHL Premier) scored off a setup from freshman defenseman Ethan Ogle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian / Amarillo Wranglers NAHL).

Freshman goalie Leif Ekblad (Williston, North Dakota / Michigan International Prep / Mercer Chiefs NCDC) stopped 29 shots.

On Friday, sophomore Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo NAHL) produced both goals for the Flying Dutch. Kent State overcame a 1-0 deficit with three second-period goals.
