Men's Track and Field Wins Two Events at GVSU Big Meet

The Hope College men's track and field team delivered a strong performance at the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University, highlighted by two event victories and multiple top-eight finishes against a deep and competitive field over the weekend.

Sophomore Noah Norris (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Washtenaw Academy) and freshman Gavin Grover (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / St. Francis) led the Flying Dutchmen.

Norris posted a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 15 minutes, 6.66 seconds.

Grover (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / St. Francis) added sn event victory in the pole vault, clearing 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3.5 inches).

Hope clocked the second and third-fastest runs in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Cooper Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) recorded a runner-up finish with a time of 15:30.05. Sophomore Joe Waalkes (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) earned a third-place finish in the event, finishing in 15:09.85.

Freshman Elijah Forbord (Howell, Michigan / Brighton) delivered a podium performance in the 3,000 meters, placing third with a time of 8:32.06.

Sophomore Kevin Barifagok (Las Vegas, Nevada / Cristo Rey Saint Viator) posted a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.42 seconds.

Freshman Luke Bellino (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.05 seconds.

Freshman Maurice Streeter (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) added an eighth-place finish in the 60 meters, clocking a time of 6.96 seconds.

Hope will compete next at the MIAA Indoor Championships - Combined events on Monday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. The Flying Dutchmen will have four in the heptathlon field.
