Sydney Vis Scores Season-High 19 Points, No. 13 Women's Basketball Wins at Alma

Forward Sydney Vos delivered a season-high 19 points and a double-double, leading the 13th-ranked Hope College women's basketball team to a 69-62 victory at Alma College on Saturday.

The senior from Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Hope upped its record to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutch hold a 2 ½-game lead for the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament and a first-round bye with three league games remaining.

On Saturday, Hope overcame a 10-2 deficit 2 ½ minutes into the game to take a 17-12 first-quarter lead thanks to a 14-0 run over the final 4 ½ minutes of the period. Vis scored six points during the first quarter, including four during the decisive surge.

The Orange and Blue never relinquished the lead, withstanding Alma's 28-point fourth quarter.

Freshman guard Josie DeSmit (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) chipped in a season-high 13 points

Sophomore guard Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Her twin sister, Leah Richards, added eight points and eight rebounds.

Cadence Kaminski topped Alma (9-12, 5-7 MIAA) with 17 points.

Hope steps away from conference play for its next game on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. against Hardin-Simmons University (Texas) during the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hardin Simmons (17-4) was honorable mention in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops polls.
