Women's Basketball Forward Sydney Vis Hits 1,000-Point Milestone

Sydney Vis joined an elite group of Hope College women's basketball standouts on Saturday.

The forward from Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) reached the 1,000-point milestone during the Flying Dutch's 76-62 victory at Trine University in the title game of the MIAA Tournament, presented by Collegiate Credit Union.

Vis is the 17th Hope women's basketball student-athlete to accomplish the feat. The senior has 1,006 points over 105 games.

Head coach Brian Morehouse credited Vis for possessing and using the ability to deliver points from anywhere.

"She's tremendous. She's a consistent scorer and all levels of the floor," Morehouse said. "She's a great, consistent player who makes her free throws. She has a gift that not many people have. She can make any shot: hard shots, wide-open shots."

Vis eclipsed 1,000 points on a tip-in with minutes remaining in the first half.

Entering this season, Vis said she did not expect to achieve the milestone. A senior-year surge helped propel the exercise science major.

Vis has 294 points and counting, her most since a 371-point sophomore campaign.

"It's just very exciting. I didn't really think I would get it," Vis said. "My mom was talking to me about it at the beginning of the year. I was like, 'I don't really want to focus on that. It's my senior year, I want to have fun,'" It's still a super, super exciting thing to accomplish. I couldn't have done it without my teammates either. There are five of us out on the court, so I'm very grateful for them and for all that they do."
