Softball Tops Heldelberg, Loses to Case Western Reserve in Final Day Down South

The Hope College softball team concluded a six-day trip to Florida with an 8-1, six-inning victory against Heidelberg University and an 8-3 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Monday.

Against Heidelberg, shortstop Becca Tuttle of Grand Rapids, Michigan (West Catholic), slugged a two-run homer, while center fielder Kenadee Schnick of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison), added a two-run single.

Winning pitcher Gianna Kerschbaum of Baroda, Michigan (Stevensville Lakeshore), helped her cause by opening the scoring with a two-run double. Kerschbaum tossed four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six without a walk.

Against unbeaten CWRU, Tuttle blasted her second two-run homer of the day. First baseman Sophie Stironek of Lake Orion, Michigan (Lake Orion), belted a solo homer. The Spartans (7-0) sealed the game with a five-run sixth inning.

Hope (5-5) next plays Saturday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m. in a nonleague doubleheader at Ohio Northern University.
