Five Chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Five Hope College standouts have been selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior John Foster, junior Gibson Heethuis, and sophomore Tyler Berens in men's lacrosse, senior Julia Brown in women's lacrosse, and freshman Hadley Krygier in women's tennis.

Foster (Ada, Michigan/Forest Hills Central) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career. The defender anchored a Hope backline that allowed six goals per game during victories over Edgewood University, 23-5, at home and Carroll University, 23-7, on the road. Foster, an exercise science major, accumulated four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan/Hudsonville) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive time and the fifth time in his career. The attacker totaled 22 points during a record-setting week, setting a school record with nine assists against Edgewood and finishing one off the school record with seven goals at Carroll. Heethuis, a biology major, recorded four goals against Edgewood and two assists against Carroll. He was the No. 7 player in NCAA Division III this season with at least nine assists in a game.

Berens (West Olive, Michigan/West Ottawa) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time. The long-stick midfielder posted two caused turnovers and two ground balls apiece against Edgewood and Carroll.

Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan/Forest Hills Central) is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career. The attacker set a program record with nine goals during an 18-9 victory at the University of Mount Union on Saturday. Brown, a sociology major with a criminal justice focus, also registered one assist to post her first double-digit point game of the season.

Krygier (White Lake, Michoigan/Walled Lake Northern) is the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in her career. Krygier went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles last week during the Flying Dutch's 6-1 victory against Lake Forest College at home and a 7-0 victory at The University of Olivet in the MIAA opener.
