Women's Tennis Uses Doubles Sweep to Propel Past Calvin

A rivalry win always carries extra weight, and Hope made sure this one did too.

The Hope College women's tennis team earned a 5–2 victory over Calvin University, sweeping all three doubles courts and riding that momentum into four straight-set singles wins to close out a strong afternoon.

The defending MIAA regular season champions improved to 7-5, and 2-0 in league play with the road victory.

Hope opened the match by sweeping all three doubles courts, securing the early point decisively.

The Flying Dutch carried that energy into singles, where senior Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) delivered a standout performance at No. 1, edging a tight first set 7–5 before rolling 6–0 in the second.

Sophomore Hadley Krygier (White Lake, Michigan / Walled Lake Northern) bounced back in No. 2 singles, from a 3–6 opening set to dominate the next two, 6–1, 6–2.

At No. 3, freshman Jana Beier (Fort Wayne Indiana / Carroll) stayed steady throughout a 7–5, 6–3 win, and freshman Sophia Grzesiak (Beverly Hills, Michigan / Detroit County Day) added another victory at No. 4, taking her match 6–4, 6–1.

Calvin claimed points at Nos. 5 and 6, but Hope's early doubles sweep and strong top-court play secured the 5–2 team win.

Hope is back in action as they head to the Midwest Invitational Friday-Saturday, April 3-4 in Madison, Wisconsin.
