Nate Price Named Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach

He is a United States Professional Tennis Association and Professional Tennis Registry Professional

Nate Price, the Director of Tennis at DeWitt Tennis Center, has been chosen to lead the Hope College men's and women's tennis teams as head coach.

A Professional Tennis Registry professional,  Price returns as Hope's head coach for the 2026-27 season. He previously served as head women's coach for three seasons (2010-2012) and one season as interim men's and women's head coach in 2017, and as an assistant coach in 2024.

Director of Athletics Tim Schoonveld said Price is highly regarded by the college's student-athletes and alumni, as well as his USTA peers.

"We are so excited to welcome Nate back as our men's and women's tennis coach. He is a gifted professional who has been engaged with our teams for many years as a head coach and, most recently, as our assistant coach," Schoonveld said. "We had a strong candidate pool, and as we searched, it became very clear that Nate is the right person to enhance our programs. We look forward to him carrying on our tradition of academic success, competitive excellence, and in the end helping to set the table for transformation within the lives of our student-athletes."

Price has been teaching tennis in West Michigan since 2002. He has worked with many nationally ranked juniors as well as players who have gone on to play for nationally ranked collegiate teams. The DeWitt Tennis Center at Hope College is a nationally recognized, full-service tennis club offering lessons and programs for all ages and levels.

Price said he is very honored to have the opportunity to be again the head coach of the Hope College Men's and Women's Tennis teams.

"I want to thank the athletic administration for their trust in me as a coach and leader of young people. Having been involved with the tennis programs for many years, both as head and assistant coach, I have been privy to experience the great tradition that is Hope Tennis on the court and in the classroom," Price said. "I plan to continue the great success that previous coaching staffs have set in motion, and continue to build towards the future with our current group of student-athletes and beyond. The future is bright for Hope Tennis. I look forward to enjoying the good times with our players, parents, and coaches."

Price guided the Hope women's tennis team to a 69-28 record (.711) during his tenure, leading the Flying Dutch to two MIAA regular-season and two MIAA Tournament championships. The 2012 tournament title started Hope's current MIAA-record reign of 14 seasons. He coached six All-MIAA First Team selections, including 2017 MIAA MVP Nancy Benda, and four All-MIAA Second Team honorees.

On the men's side, Price coached two All-MIAA selections in 2017. Hope went 9-10 and reached the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament.

As a student-athlete, Price was ranked highly as a player at West Ottawa High School and Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. He earned a top-20 NAIA national ranking in both singles and doubles. Price was also ranked in the top 10 in the Midwest section in the Men's Open division.
