The Hope College men's cross country team put together a solid performance at the Adrian College Heritage Classic, placing third overall out of 11 competing programs in the 8,000-meter run on Saturday in Adrian, Michigan.
Sophomore Nathanial Roehrig (Heyworth, Illinois / Heyworth HS) spearheaded the Flying Dutch's effort, crossing the finish line in 26:58.70 to earn a top-15 result in 15th place.
Hope built a strong front pack, with senior Shane Pitcher (Saline, Michigan / Saline) taking 16th place right behind Roehrig in 27:03.40, and freshman Andru Koehl (Waukegan, Illinois / Warren Township) clocking in at 27:05.50 for 17th.
Sophomore Mason Sinke (Kaleva, Michigan / Onekema) was the fourth Flying Dutch to finish, placing 23rd with a time of 27:19.70.
Freshman Reid Cousins (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) rounded out the scoring group in 27th place at 27:36.50.
Senior Tim Peterson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern mo) and junior Jack Leydon (Plymouth, Michigan / Salem) finished back-to-back to complete Hope's top seven and cap off a cohesive team outing. Peterson placed 29th at27:41.90. Leydon was 30th at 27:43.90.
Southwestern Michigan College secured first place in the team standings with 56 points, followed by Calvin University in second with 66. Hope totaled 98 points.
Hope hits the course again on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Northfield, Minnesota as the Flying Dutch compete in the Carleton College's Running of the Cows at the Bill Huyck Championship Course, site of this season's NCAA Division III Championships.
