Julie Potts ‘08 joined the Hope College Women’s Basketball coaching staff in July 2020 as a varsity assistant and junior varsity coach.

As a player, Potts was a member of the Flying Dutch’s 2006 national championship women’s basketball team. She started all 122 games of her Hope career and ranks second all-time with 445 career assists. She is fifth in single-season assists with 119 (2006-07) and tied for 10th in single-season assists with 108 in 2005-06.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communication, Potts worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Bluffton University (Ohio) for two seasons from 2009 to 2011. Potts then coached girls basketball at Zeeland East High School from 2011 to 2019, serving as head coach for five seasons and assistant coach for three.

“I’m very excited to add Julie’s experience to our staff,” head coach Brian Morehouse said. “Having an assistant coach who has previous college coaching experience and five years as a head coach will really benefit our student-athletes. This experience in addition to her knowledge of our basketball program as a 2006 national champion makes this a great fit for the Flying Dutch.”

Potts works as a human resources specialist at JR Automation. She and her husband, Brent, have two children: son, Greyden, and daughter, Eden.
