Hope College

David Jolly joined the Hope College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs as an assistant coach on July 1, 2019. He also serves as the director of intramurals for the college.

Prior to coming to Hope, Jolly taught and coached for Chelsea Public Schools from 1988 to 2019. He taught eighth-grade science. He also served as Chelsea’s community pool director from 1989 to 2004.

Jolly guided Chelsea’s boys and girls swimming & diving teams to a combined total of 12 top-four finishes at Michigan High School Athletic Association state meets, including two state runner-up finishes.

He coached 17 state champions, including four who won multiple titles at the same meet, and 11 High School All-America athletes.

As an athlete, Jolly was a Mid-American Conference champion in swimming at Eastern Michigan University. He also captained the 1983 state champion Lansing Waverly swimming and diving team.

Jolly holds a master's degree in educational leadership and bachelor's degree in biology from Eastern Michigan University.
