Harris Hawkins ‘23 joined the Hope College men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2026-27 season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinators. He will also serve as the head junior varsity coach.

Hawkins returned to his alma mater after serving as a graduate assistant for two seasons at the University of the Cumberlands. During two seasons, Cumberlands went to two Sweet 16s and was ranked in the top 5 nationally in NAIA both seasons. Hawkins helped develop two NAIA All-Americans. Anthony “Pig” Johnson, now at Arizona State, and Kyle Duke, who plays on Team Canada. Hawkins was integral in recruiting, operations, and player development for the Patriots. While in Williamsburg, Kentucky, he also co-founded Buzzi2x Hoops, a program for international athletes looking to find college opportunities in the USA. He is the director of Recruiting and Operations for Buzzi2x Hoops. Over two years, Hawkins recruited 65 basketball student-athletes from 12 countries to play for Buzzi2x, helping players earn scholarship offers and offering recruiting mentorship.

A three-time letterwinner as a student-athlete, Hawkins was a member of two MIAA Championship teams. He made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll twice. He was also a finalist for Hopey’s comeback player of the year in 2022 after coming back from ACL surgery his junior year.

Hawkins holds a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Cumberlands and a bachelor’s in business from Hope.
