Jonathan Newman joined the Hope College Baseball coaching staff in July 2020 as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He also will teach health dynamics during the 2022-23 school year.
Newman also is an assistant equipment manager for the college. He works with Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball on equipment management and inventory. In collaboration with coaches, He oversees field/court setup at DeVos Fieldhouse, Boeve Stadium, and Wolters Stadium. He oversees hiring, training and scheduling of all student laundry workers, working closely with other equipment managers.
Newman came to Hope after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Grand Valley State University (2018-20). At GVSU, Newman coached catchers. In 2017, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Central Michigan University, also working with catchers. In 2016, he was a student assistant at Spring Arbor University.
A native of South Lyon, Michigan, Newman played four seasons at Spring Arbor and helped Spring Arbor win back-to-back Crossroads League champions in 2014 and 2015. He earned all-league honors in 2014 and 2015.
Newman holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Spring Arbor and a master's degree in higher education.Â
