Kevin Wolma began serving as an Assistant Athletic Director for Student Wellness and Compliance at Hope College in June 2023.
In this new role, Wolma will be advocating for and leading programs which will benefit the comprehensive wellness of Hope College student-athletes, while also supporting coaches and staff in their efforts to have a transformational impact.
“Kevin's 20-plus years of coaching and leadership experience in high school athletics at Hudsonville Public Schools, the OK Conference and across the state make him an excellent fit to serve in this new role," Director of Athletics Tim Schoonveld said. "It was evident throughout the interview process how much Kevin loves and values the impact Hope Athletics had on him throughout his career. We are confident his leadership will have that same impact on many others.”
Prior to joining Hope Athletics, Wolma worked for two years as Associate Director of Admissions at Hope and for 25 years in education as a teacher and an administrator.
Wolma served as athletic director for Hudsonville Public Schools for 10 years from 2011 to 2021. He was named Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Regional Athletic Director of the Year in 2021 and the West Michigan Officials Athletic Director of the Year in 2015. He also was named Ottawa County Substance Abuse Prevention Administrator of the Year in 2015.
At Hudsonville, Wolma designed and implemented a leadership curriculum for ninth through 12th graders, which he also taught. Wolma also served as OK Conference Leadership Summit Director and Facilitator. Wolma taught secondary health and physical education at Hudsonville from 1997 through 2011. He also coached three varsity sports there: girls golf from 2009 to 2011, boys basketball from 2000 to 2006, and girls tennis from 1997 to 2002. He was selected as Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association Regional Golf Coach of the Year in 2010.
Wolma also coached varsity boys basketball at Caledonia from 1997 to 2000.
Wolma started his career in education at Roscommon, where he taught secondary science for one year.
In 2003, Wolma earned his Master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University. In 1996, Wolma graduated from Alma College with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and health science.
Also, an author, Wolma wrote “30 Second Timeout - Navigating Through the Challenges of Youth Sports” which was published in 2020.
Wolma and his wife, Gina, have three children: Kayla ’24, Jordan ’24, and Kelsey ‘27.
