Ryan Wade joined the Hope College men’s basketball team as a full-time assistant coach before the 2026-27 season.

The former Western Michigan University guard and Laingsburg High School standout had been serving as the head assistant boys varsity basketball coach at Grandville High School since 2021 and a coach for the Grand Rapids Storm program since 2020. Wade has also operated his Advanced Basketball Training business since 2018.

At WMU, Wade played two seasons and was part of back-to-back 20-win campaigns. Following his freshman season, he earned a full athletic scholarship from head coach Steve Hawkins while on a team trip to Europe, where the scholarship was presented atop the Eiffel Tower.
His playing career was later cut short by knee injuries.

In high school, Wade played on varsity for three seasons, including his junior and sophomore seasons with Mitchell as his head coach. Wade garnered all-state accolades three times and played on Laingsburg’s 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class C state runner-up team. He was chosen as a Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Top 100 player in 2015.

Wade holds a B.S. degree in education and Human Development from Western Michigan. He and his wife, Madalynn, have a daughter, Baylor.
