The Hope volleyball team made its debut as the top-ranked team in the country as a successful and historic one on Wednesday.
The Flying Dutch gave coach Becky Schmidt her 300th career win with a three-game sweep of Adrian in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 611.
The match was part of Hometown Week at Hope sponsored by Lorence & VanderZwart.
Hope, which appeared atop the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Poll for the first time on Tuesday, won its 14th consecutive match. The Flying Dutch improved to 26-1 overall and 13-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
The MIAA co-leaders received a match-high 13 kills from both senior middle hitter Courtney Earles of Kentwood (East Kentwood HS) and junior outside Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS).
Earles, who was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week on Tuesday, finished with a match-high .667 kill percentage.

Junior outside hitter Anna Lynch of Lake Odessa (Lakewood HS) added nine kills for Hope.
Sophomore setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport (Fruitport HS) collected 39 assists for the Flying Dutch.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when it travels to Kalamazoo.
