Box Score Senior Raisa Yewah scored two goals as the Hope women's soccer team blanked host Alma 3-0 on Saturday to improve into first place in the league standings.
The Flying Dutch (14-2-1 overall) now have 31 points in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with an 11-2-1 league record. Hope is three points ahead of second-place Calvin, but has played one more league match than the Knights.
Senior goalie Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central) earned the shutout with five saves.
Yewah, a forward from East Lansing (Okemos HS), scored in the 15th minute to give the Flying Dutch a 1-0 lead off an assist from junior forward Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy). Yewah headed in a cross from six hours out.
Freshman midfielder Sarah Fazio of Holland (Holland Christian HS) extended Hope's lead to 2-0 lead in the 68h minute when she finished a corner kick. Junior midfielder Erin Jipping of Holland (West Ottawa HS) had the assist.
Yewah upped her season total to nine goals in the 79th minute by putting home a rebound. Junior forward Lindsey Bieri of Holland (Holland Christian) had the assist.
Hope avenged a 1-0 home loss to Alma on Sept. 24.
