Box Score Three second-half goals powered the Hope College women's soccer team to a 3-1 season-opening win at Denison (Ohio).
The Flying Dutch play at Kenyon (Ohio) at 2 p.m. Saturday.
A Denison own goal with 7 minutes, 54 seconds remaining in regulation gave Hope a 2-1 lead.
Junior Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy) then iced the win by scoring an unassisted goal with 28 seconds remaining.
Hope, which trailed 1-0 at halftime, tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal from senior Raisa Yewah of East Lansing (Okemos HS) quickly in the second half at 52:50.
Senior goalie Lauren Kooy of Metamora (Flint Powers HS) made one save after being inserted into the lineup at the beginning of the second half. Junior Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central HS) had one first-half save.
"I think we just played a much better second half," Hope coach Leigh Sears said. "Denison started to tire a little, maybe. To get the first win is a big thing."
