Box Score The 23rd-ranked Hope College men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Olivet College 3-2 on Wednesday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
Senior Tarwo Konbloa of Kentwood, Michigan (East Kentwood HS), scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner, as the Flying Dutchmen improved their overall record to 9-2.
Konbloa snapped a 2-2 tie 1 minute, 26 seconds into the second half. He scored off a scrum in front of the Olivet net following a corner kick from teammate Cameron Dice of Allendale, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS).
Konbloa cut Olivet's lead to 2-1 in the 26th minute with a right-footed blast from about 12 yards out. He collected the ball off a deflection and scored 4 ½ minutes after the Comets grabbed a two-goal lead.
Junior Andreas Slette of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), pulled Hope even in the 41st minute. His strike came straight at the goal from about 18 yards. It was Slette's second goal of the season.
Junior goalie Ethan Beswick of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), made six saves for the Flying Dutchmen.
Hope also remained in sole possession of second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings. The Flying Dutchmen are 4-1 in league play.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Flying Dutchmen play at 2:30 p.m. match at Alma.
