Josh Hagene scored quickly into overtime to lift the Hope College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Adrian on Wednesday.
Hagene scored 1:35 into the first 10-minute, sudden-death overtime period from 18 yards out.
It was the team-leading seventh goal of the season for the sophomore from Caledonia, Michigan (East Kentwood HS).
Junior David Porte of Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan HS), had his second assist of the season on Hagene's goal.
The Flying Dutchmen improved to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. They extended their lead over third-place Kalamazoo to five points after Kalamazoo lost to first-place Calvin on Wednesday.
Senior Tarwo Konbloa of Kentwood, Michigan (East Kentwood HS), gave Hope a 1-0 lead 25:02 into the first half. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Senior Corey Stelk of Bettendorf, Iowa (Pleasant Valley HS), recorded the assist – his first of the season.
Junior Sam Barthel of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Waukesha HS), made two saves against Adrian (4-9-1, 1-7-1) for his first win this season. Barthel is pictured above.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when the Flying Dutchmen host Calvin for homecoming. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium with post-match fireworks sponsored by Lorence & Vander Zwart.
