Box Score Brandon Underwood scored twice as the Hope College men's soccer team won 4-2 at Olivet on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen (13-5 overall) leapfrogged Kalamazoo for second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings after improving to 8-4 in league play.
The victory was the 350th of coach Steven Smith's career. Smith's record is 350-120-39 in 25 seasons at Hope.
Underwood broke a 1-1 tie with 22 minutes, 8 seconds remaining in the second half. The senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern HS), scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the season off an assist from senior Cameron Dice of Allendale, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS).
Hope then scored twice in a span of 6:40 to go ahead 4-1.
Freshman David White of Vernon Hills, Illinois (Vernon Hills HS), netted his first career goal with 11:58 remaining. Senior Gavin Midlam of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS), had the assist.
Sophomore Josh Hagene of Caledonia, Michigan (East Kentwood HS), chipped in his team-leading 10th goal of the season with 15:18 remaining.
Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Alma. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
