Top-ranked Calvin (27-3) will receive the MIAA's automatic berth to the national tournament.
"This was a match of runs and, when we got on the down side of the runs we struggled more than they did," Hope coach Becky Schmidt said. "(In the fifth set) we struggled to get into the system and execute the way we are capable of."
Senior Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), totaled 16 kills to lead the Flying Dutch.
Junior Anna Lynch of Lake Odessa, Michigan (Lakewood HS), added 10 kills, while senior Amy VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) had nine. Junior setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS), collected 35 assists.
The match was the first five-setter of the season for Hope.
The last one for the Flying Dutch was the 2013 MIAA Tournament title match at Calvin.
Hope and Calvin have played five-set matches in the past three MIAA Tournament finals.
