Hope Football Scores Late TD, Downs MIAA Leader Trine

Box Score

The Hope College football team refused to allow a title celebration on its turf.

Junior Matt Kroll of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), caught a go-ahead, 34-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter for a 31-24 win against Trine on Saturday at Smith Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. They close the 2014 season on Saturday, Nov. 15 at home against Kalamazoo.

Trine (6-3, 4-1 MIAA) will host Adrian next week to determine the conference champion. Both teams are tied atop the league standings.

Hope went 71 yards in 1 minute, 58 seconds for the winning touchdown.

Junior quarterback Robert Kish of Grosse Pointe, Michigan (Grosse Pointe South HS), completed four passes on the seven-play drive. The final heave allowed Kroll, pictured, to catch it at the Trine 10-yard line and walk into the end zone untouched with 1 minute, 14 seconds remaining.

The Flying Dutchmen stopped Trine on four downs to seal the win.

Kish threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 12-yard touchdown strike to Kroll 13 seconds before halftime that resulted in a 14-7 lead.

Senior Reggie Duncan of Williamston, Michigan (Wiliamston HS), added a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
