"We challenged them to get off to a great start, and they did," Hope coach Matt Neil said. "We attacked the basket. We went inside. We were forcing them to have to guard us inside. Our strength, we want the ball to go in and come out."
The Flying Dutchmen improved to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
Sophomore guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) scored a team-high 15 points for Hope.
Two others scored in double figures for the Flying Dutchmen — sophomore point guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Ind., (Carmel HS) with 11 points and senior forward Caleb Byers of Allegan (Allegan HS) with 10 points.
Neil finished with five points and a game-high five assists.
Hope shot 48.9 percent from the field as a team (23-of-47) against the MIAA's top scoring defense.
The Flying Dutchmen matched their season-best effort for points allowed in a game. They also gave up 56 in a win against Adrian on Wednesday.
"I thought our defense got us going in the start of the game," Neil said. "We did a really good job on Tyler Good and Will Dixon — their two perimeter scorers. I thought again Alex, Ben and Brant were focused on what we had to do from the beginning. We ended up with different guys on all those people and did a good job with that."
