In 2014, the Hope College women's lacrosse team is aiming to build on the foundation of its first varsity season.
Coach Tracy Benjamin is back to lead the Flying Dutch, who have a roster of 19 players, including 13 returners. There are seven seniors, one junior, nine sophomores and two freshmen.
Co-captains this season are junior midfielder Molly Greenfield of Georgetown, Texas, (Georgetown HS), senior defender Stephanie Rogers of Fremont (Fremont HS) and senior midfielder Katie Sabourin of Flint (Powers Catholic HS).
Hope was picked third in the preseason MIAA coaches poll.
The Flying Dutch are coming off a 6-9 season in 2013. Hope went 4-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play for third place and qualified for the league tournament. Hope won five of its final six matches in 2013.
The Flying Dutch return two players who claimed All-MIAA First Team honors last season: Greenfield and Sabourin.
Sabourin finished second on the team with 47 points. She also was second for Hope with 39 goals and eight assists. Greenfield was third with 39 points and 30 goals. She led the Flying Dutch with nine assists.
Hope opens the season on Wednesday, March 12, against Calvin College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. MIAA play starts on Wednesday, April 2, at Calvin College.
