Hope-Calvin Women's Basketball Preview

The Hope College women's basketball team shoots for its 13th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament title tonight at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Tipoff for the MIAA Tournament championship game against Calvin College is 7:30 p.m.

This is the Flying Dutch's 16th appearance in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship game. Hope is 12-3 all-time in title games, including a 6-2 mark against Calvin in tournament finales. The Flying Dutch won last season's tournament championship 62-59 at Calvin. 

The teams have played each other 14 times in the MIAA tournament since 1993. Hope has an 8-6 advantage.

Tonight's winner will receive the MIAA's bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced by the NCAA on Monday, March 3, at 2:30 p.m. on ncaa.com. Check the Hope College Athletics website on Monday afternoon for more information about the postseason pairings.

Since 2000, Hope holds a 28-10 series advantage against Calvin, including two regular-season wins this season. Hope trails in the all-time series with Calvin by a 66-43 margin. Since women's basketball became an official MIAA sport in 1978-79, Calvin leads 45-42.

The Flying Dutch are 137-3 at DeVos Fieldhouse since they began play there on Nov. 19, 2005. Two of the losses came to Calvin: during the 2006-07 regular season and 2011 MIAA Tournament championship game. Hope is 12-0 at home this season.

The most points by both teams in a game is 169. Hope won 88-81 at Calvin on Nov. 19, 2013. The most points by Hope in a single game against Calvin was 89-51 in 2003. Calvin's most points resulted in an 87-71 win for the Knights in 1984.

The fewest points by Hope in a game against Calvin came in a 73-19 loss in 1975. The fewest points by Calvin was in a 28-25 win in 1967.

Two Hope-Calvin games have gone into overtime. The Flying Dutch won 55-53 in 1995 and Calvin 63-58 in 2007. 

Twenty-six of the games have been decided by five or fewer points. Calvin holds a 15-11 advantage in those games. In one-point games, Calvin leads 3-0 (59-58 in 1981, 61-60 in 1984 and 56-55 in 2011).
