Two Hope Basketball Players Earn All-Region Honors

Two Hope College basketball players have received all-region recognition from d3hoops.com.

Sophomore forward Maura McAfee of Midland (Midland HS) is representing the Flying Dutch on the Great Lakes Region Women's First Team, while Flying Dutchmen senior center Nate VanArendonk of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) is on the Great Lakes Region Men's Second Team.

McAfee, the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association MVP, lead the Hope women's basketball team to a 28-1 overall record, the third undefeated regular season in team history and an outright league championship. The Flying Dutch reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

McAfee topped Hope this season with 14.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She had the third-most rebounds in a single season with 280. She also collected a team-best 14 double-doubles during the season.

VanArendonk is an All-MIAA First Team Player as well. He finished third on the Flying Dutchmen at 10.5 points per game, while leading them with 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

VanArendonk helped Hope go 20-8 overall, capture an outright MIAA regular-season championship and reach the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
