Flying Dutchmen Fare Well At MIAA Flighted Tournament's First Day

The Hope College men's tennis has advanced three doubles flights and two singles players to the semifinals of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Flighted Tournament.

The two-day event at Etheridge Tennis Complex began on Friday and will conclude on Saturday. It is a non-scoring event.

Senior Parker Bussies of Zeeland (Zeeland West HS), pictured, at right, is in the semifinals at A Singles. He will face Albion College's Jonathan Gurnee.

Bussies defeated Calvin's Tom Griffin 7-5, 6-2 in the first round and Trine's Caleb Knust 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the quarterfinals.

Freshman Camden Ludlow of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) advanced to the semifinals at C singles. He will play Kalamazoo College's Jacob Scott.

Ludlow beat Adrian College's Garrett Livernois 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and Alma College's Gordon Rumschlag 2-5, 6-4, 10-3 in the quarterfinals.

Junior TJ Brogan of East Lansing (East Lansing HS) and senior Colin McKey of Stevensville (Lakeshore HS) reached the semifinals in A Doubles.

Brogan and McKey claimed a 9-7 win against Trine's pair of Knust and Joe Dunbar in the first round and an 8-4 win against Alma's Bryan Schutte and Grant Hill in the quarterfinals.

The Flying Dutchmen put two flights through to the semifinals at B Doubles.

Sophomore Chris Tippett of Flushing (Flint Powers Catholic HS) and sophomore Ben Johnson of Brighton (Hartland HS) will face Albion College's David Richter and Steve Nawrocki in other semifinal.

Junior Cory Herbruck of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Central HS) and freshman Sam Kreps of Holland (Holland HS) will play Alma's Joshua Gove and Jared Guy in the other.

Tippitt and Johnson drew a first-round bye, then defeated Alma's Chad Barnhart and Damian Arthur 8-3 in the quarterfinals 

Herbruck and Kreps topped Albion's Rahul Raj and Troy Pozolo 8-3 in the first round and Calvin's Anthony Vroon and Oscar Lopez 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
