The Hope College baseball team has named catcher Eric Vachon as its Most Valuable Player for the 2014 season.
The senior from Sterling Heights, Michigan (De La Salle Collegiate), batted .299 this season with a team-high 30 RBIs in 38 games.
Vachon earned his first All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First-Team recognition after batting a team-high .367 in 28 league games. He totaled 14 extra-base hits during MIAA play, including 12 doubles and one home run, while also recorded a league-high 27 RBIs.
Vachon hit .299 overall in 38 games and totaled a team-high 30 RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Ty Van Wieren of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven) was named Rookie of the Year. He appeared in 10 games this season and posted a 4-2 record with a 3.92 ERA.
Senior pitcher Tom Tresh of Grand Rapids, Michigan (NorthPointe Christian HS) was the recipient of the Dutchman award.
