Box Score Double-digit kills from two players powered the nationally ranked Hope College volleyball team to a four-set win at No. 7 Wittenberg (Ohio) on Friday in the Flying Dutch's season opener.
The No. 4 Flying Dutch won 25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22 behind 13 kills from two-time NCAA Division III All-American Jenna Grasmeyer and 10 from fellow senior Anna Lynch.
Grasmeyer, an outside hitter from Jenison, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), also recorded 14 digs during Hope's first match in the Courtyard by Marriott National Invitational in Springfield, Ohio.
Lynch, from Lake Odessa, Michigan (Lakewood HS), also chipped in 10 digs.
The Flying Dutch received seven kills apiece from seniors Jillian Sommerville of Plymouth, Michigan (Salem HS) and Amy VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS).
Junior All-American setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport, Michigan (Fruitport HS) dished out 38 assists.
Hope returns to action at Wittenberg's tournament with two matches on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Flying Dutch play No. 5 St. Thomas (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time and Johns Hopkins (Maryland) at 3 p.m.
