Two goals in the final five minutes lifted the Hope College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win against Carthage (Wisconsin) on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch evened their record at 1-1 with the nonleague win in Naperville, Illinois. 

Forward Elizabeth Perkins netted the game-winning goal with 2 minutes, 13 seconds remaining the regulation. The sophomore from Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from junior midfielder Kristin Hazlett of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay HS).

Hope tied the score at 1-1 just 2:15 earlier when senior forward Lindsay Bieri of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) delivered her first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Curry of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville Calvin Christian HS) had the assist.

Carthage (0-2) had held a 1-0 lead for 55 minutes before Bieri scored at Wheaton College's Bob Baptista Invitational.

Hope coach Leigh Sears said her players elevated their play as the second half was winding down.

"They played really hard. This was another gear," Sears said. "Last year I think we won a lot of games because they played consistently with a sense of urgency. It took them a couple of days to find it (this year).

"We changed a couple of positions. The senior leadership kicked in, and they decided they had to do something."
