Sarah Fazio

Senior Sarah Fazio scored with 12.6 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Hope College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win against Adrian College on Thursday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutch improved to 3-2 overall and joined Trine atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 2-0 league record. Hope plays at Trine on Saturday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is noon.

Fazio, from Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), booted a left-footed shot over the outstretched arms of Adrian goalie Lexi Lewandowski. It was Fazio's first goal of the season.

Senior Lindsey Bieri of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), set up Fazio for the game-winner. The two teams would have played one more 10-minute, sudden-death overtime period had the score remained deadlocked.

The match went to overtime after Adrian (2-2-1, 1-1) tied the score in the 53red minute.

Hope had held the lead for 47 minutes following Erin Jipping's second goal of the season. Jipping, from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), recorded an unassisted goal after capitalizing on a deflection from about six yards out.

Senior goalie Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), made one save for Hope.
