Allie Wittenbach
A season-high five goals propelled the Hope College women's soccer team to a 5-0 win at Alma on Wednesday.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association-leading Flying Dutch received two goals apiece from senior Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Allie Wittenbach of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS).
Kirk now has three goals on the season after scoring twice in the first half for a 2-0 halftime lead. Wittenbach has the first two goals of her college career.
Hope won its sixth match in a row to improve to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutch extended their lead over idle and second-place Kalamazoo to eight points.
Sophomore Natalie Curry of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville Calvin Christian HS), chipped in her second goal of the season during the second half.
Senior Erin Jipping of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), assisted on two goals, while seniors Maria DeShaw of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), and Brooke Dippel of Mason, Michigan (Mason HS), had one assist apiece.
Senior goalie Kat Dickson of Greyslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), made eight saves for her third shutout of the season.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when the Flying Dutchmen play at Kalamazoo. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
